A VERY RARE WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON SIGNATURE AS PRESIDENT
WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON (1773-1841). Harrison was the Ninth President and the hero of Tippecanoe in the War of 1812. He was Governor of the Indiana Territory, a Congressman, and Senator before his election as President in 1840. He died just thirty-one days later, allowing John Tyler to become the first Vice President to become President.
DANIEL WEBSTER (1782-1852). Webster, a Massachusetts and New Hampshire Congressman, served as Secretary of State in the Harrison/Tyler and Fillmore administrations. He unsuccessfully ran for President in 1836 and became the premier Senator and orator of his day.
DS. 6 ¾” x 1 ½”. No date [March 1841]. No place [Washington, DC]. A very rare Presidential document signed “W H Harrison” as President and co-signed “Danl Webster” as Secretary of State. The signatures were clipped from a larger Presidential document, perhaps a ships paper or something similar. The document has two folds, a dark signature, and some aging. The ultimate Presidential rarity. |
